TAUNTON — John Parris has retired as head football coach at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School following a 28-year career, Superintendent Alexandre Magalhaes has announced.

Parris retired from the position of head football coach after the fall 2023 season.

He coached the school’s varsity football team for 17 years, having taken over for Coach Bill Moan in 2008.

Parris was also the junior varsity basketball coach from 2018-2020. Before assuming the position of head varsity football coach, he served as the offensive and defensive coordinator from 1996-2007.

In addition to coaching, he was the school's athletic director for six years from 2011-2017.

"John Parris has been a fixture in the Bristol-Plymouth football program for 40 years as a player and coach," said Assistant Coach Roger Saraiva. "He has had a major impact on countless student-athletes. He will be missed." 

Parris is also an alumni of the school, having graduated in 1978. He played football for all four years as a cornerback and outside linebacker. 

"I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Coach Parris for his unwavering dedication to B-P's athletic department," said Magalhaes. "His leadership has not only shaped our teams but also inspired countless students. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement."

Parris attended the University of Massachusetts where he studied fundamentals of occupational education.
