Stay prepared during nor’easter

Wareham, along with the rest of the Northeast, faces a large nor’easter with heavy rains and wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

Many events planned for the weekend, including the Onset Harvest Moon Festival, have been cancelled and rescheduled for future weekends.

The town declared a coastal storm watch on Wednesday, Sept. 23 that will last from Friday, Sept. 25 to Monday, Sept. 28. Wareham Emergency Management warned residents about the high risk of coastal flooding and hazards while traveling on roadways. Strong winds can knock down trees and power lines.

To prepare for the storm, Wareham Emergency Management encourages residents to do the following: Follow National Weather Service updates for the area at weather.gov/box; secure loose outdoor items near your house; build an emergency kit with medical supplies, flashlights, batteries and non-perishable foods for at least three days; check in on elderly neighbors and those with disabilities.

Rain is forecasted from Sept. 25 through Sept. 28. The strongest winds will occur on Saturday, Sept. 26.
