William “Bill” Whynot, 85
William “Bill” Whynot passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 9, 2026. He was 85 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine Whynot, née Morris, his five children, Daniel Whynot, wife Lynn, Katrina Whynot-Strange, husband Hashim, Robert Whynot, wife Amber, Julia Ertelt, and Margaret Whynot-Young, husband Shann, as well as his thirteen grandchildren, Michael, Shaquille, Jacob, Hope, Edythe Marie, Sean, Isabella, Justin, Thomas, Nadia, Kevin,
Leif, Astrid and two great-grandchildren, Vivianne and Vincent.
He is predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Margaret Whynot, brother-in-law Parker Morris, and his son-in-law Erik Ertelt.
Bill was born in Worcester, MA and raised in Weymouth, MA. He attended Archbishop Williams High School, graduating class of 1957. He went on to Wentworth Institute of Technology, received his Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
Bill and Cathy were married on December 28, 1963. They lived in Hudson, MA and later moved to Weston, MA where they raised their five children.
He was a faithful employee at MITRE corporation for 35 years. He began his career as a cartographer. He was known for his steady hand, beautiful penmanship, and artistic abilities. When MITRE closed the cartography department he transferred to their computing department, and became a network administrator.
When he retired, Bill and Cathy spent their winters in Citrus Hills, FL where they made many dear friends.
Bill loved animals, particularly dogs, and being in nature. He enjoyed music, especially Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 94 High St, Wareham, MA 02571 on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the family c/o
