Roof, gym floor replaced at early childhood center after storm

MIDDLEBORO — The roof and gym floor at Memorial Early Childhood Center have been repaired after damage from a December storm, Superintendent of Schools Carolyn Lyons told School Committee members at their April 25 meeting.

The storm damaged the roof, which subsequently led to issues with the gym floor, she said.

The district had hoped to begin work in early January, but weather conditions “waylaid’’ those plans, she said.

Instead, the work began March 12 and was completed March 15, which Lyons described asa “pretty quick turnaround.’’

The project had a side benefit of entertaining the pre-K students, who she said were intrigued by the ongoing work.

The cost was covered by insurance, Lyons said.

The meeting was also the first for newly elected member Susan Pennini.

With previous chair Rich Young opting not to seek re-election, a new chair was elected. Allin Frawley was selected as chair while previous vice chair Ezekiel Lewis was re-elected to the position. Lewis was also re-elected to the committee at the town election.
