Two middle schoolers receive ‘Scotty Award’
Wareham Middle School gave the Scotty Monteiro Jr. Award to two students, Kale Lisle and Taraji Ribeiro, for the month of October.
“Kale and Taraji embody what it means to be community leaders,” said Middle School Principal Sara Russo in a statement. “Whether they are supporting their peers, showing genuine respect to school staff, or pushing themselves to excel in their studies, they consistently lead by example every single day.”
The “Scotty Award,” started by the Scotty Monteiro Jr. Foundation, is given out monthly to students who embody strong character, leadership and kindness.
It honors Scotty Monteiro Jr., who lost his life to violence at 21 years old in 2009.
The foundation tries to highlight young leaders across the community to inspire peace and positivity in others.
