Owner of Lakeville wrestling club charged with indecent assault

Dec 11, 2023

WAREHAM — Bridgewater resident Fredrick Conrad, 63, was charged on Friday, Dec. 8 with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over which allegedly occurred during a practice at his Lakeville wrestling gym, Brick Road Wrestling Club.

According to a Lakeville Police Department report, the three alleged assaults took place at an Oct. 17, 2023 wrestling practice at Conrad’s gym.

The 16-year-old victim had previously trained at Conrad’s gym prior to the alleged assaults, according to the police report.

According to the police report, the victim told an investigator during an interview that the victim had been “rolling” with Conrad, the victim’s coach, at a practice where other people were present.

The alleged assaults occurred while the two were “rolling,” according to the police report.

According to the police report, the first assault occurred when Conrad either “began to bite on” or “sucked” on the victim’s ear during practice.

The second alleged assault occurred later in the practice, when Conrad “sucked on [the victim’s] neck” for “about 5 seconds,” according to the police report. The third instance of alleged assault was due to Conrad biting the victim on the butt which was “instantaneous and really quick.”

According to the police report, the victim said “the assault was not one after another and that it happened throughout the course of the night.”

The victim said that Conrad also made comments such as “I can’t stop thinking about your pretty little face.” While sucking on the victim’s neck, Conrad also allegedly said “I better stop before I give you a hickey.”

According to the police report, the victim's father said there were text messages between the victim and Conrad, but the police report does not include those text messages.

The victim also had made “journal notes” of the victim’s interactions with Conrad. According to the police report, a police officer “reviewed the notes and determined that they were very consistent with what [the victim] had revealed during the… interview.”

At a voluntary interview with Lakeville police, Conrad denied saying “I better stop before I give you a hickey.” Conrad also denied biting the victim.

“You can’t bite in any sport,” said Conrad in the police report. “I never bit [the victim] and [the victim] never bit me.”

Conrad also said that “rolling” in the context of wrestling practice involved doing “a ‘lemon squeeze’” and that it would involve “cheek to cheek” and “forehead to neck,” contact where participants “work your head under the chin which I’m sure [the victim’s] done it to me and I’ve done it to [the victim].”

A lawyer representing Conrad said that Conrad “vehemently denies” the allegations.

According to a Lakeville Police Department press release, the case “remains under investigation” and people “who may have further information [are] asked to call Lakeville Police at 508-947-4422.”
