Public input encouraged for Middleboro Master Plan

Apr 7, 2024

MIDDLEBORO — Middleboro is working with the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, also known as SRPEDD, to develop its next community plan. Middleboro’s master plan was last updated in 2002.

According to SRPEDD, a master plan is a policy guide designed to help communities create a vision of what they want to look like in the future. Master plans help guide communities in their planning decisions for many years and are a valuable resource for anyone who would like to better understand a community’s values and priorities.

Over the next two years, Middleboro, with support from SRPEDD, will build a new master plan based on a combination of input from residents, business owners, community organizers and other stakeholders, and current, accurate data about the town. The new plan will help guide the town for the next 10 years.

The public is encouraged to participate in the process.

On Saturday, April 13, SRPEDD staff will be at the Herring Run Festival at Oliver Mill Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to inform residents of ongoing projects, including the master plan.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, SRPEDD will be hosting a kick-off Discovery Workshop to inform residents about what the planning process will look like and to begin discussing a vision for the 2025-2035 plan. The Middleboro Master Plan Discovery Workshop will be held at the Middleboro Public Library, 102 N. Main St.

Community members are encouraged to register for the workshop at srpedd.org/event/middleborough-master-plan-discovery-workshop/,

The events are the first in a series of community workshops and opportunities that will encourage input and feedback from residents to help shape the town’s master plan. A kick-off survey is expected to be published prior to the discovery workshop and topic-based workshops are expected to be held from June to November before the master plan writing and reviewing process will begin in 2025.
