Both Middleboro and Lakeville were affected by a rainstorm with 60-70 mile per hour winds on Monday, Dec. 18, according to meteorologist Joe Dellicarpini. The impact of the storm included downed trees, power outages, and the early dismissal of Middleboro school students.

Middleboro received 2.43 inches of rainwater, according to Dellicarpini. The Middleboro Gas and Electric Department reported “widespread power outages,” according to a Facebook post from the department.

In Lakeville, the Lakeville Fire Department said in a Facebook post that a Lakeville family “lost two dogs when a tree fell from a wind gust.” In addition, the Fire Department said that several Lakeville homes had been damaged by the storm.

In Middleboro, the storm caused power to go out at the Henry B. Burkland School and the Mary K. Goode School buildings, which led to after school activities being canceled and students at all Middleboro public schools being dismissed from school early, according to a Facebook post from the Middleboro School District.

“We apologize for this inconvenience but the current weather situation does not allow for us to continue with a normal school day,” said the Facebook post. “As always the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”
