Riders pedaled through town in support of the coalition’s work to protect and restore clean water in Buzzards Bay and its surrounding lands, and the 428 participants in this year’s ride have raised $226,000 so far.
Along the route, volunteers gave directions for following the route and cheered on riders.
Kimmy Schenter traveled from Washington state to visit her daughter, who is currently an intern for the coalition. When she heard about the ride, she told her daughter she wanted to volunteer.
Pom poms in hand, she cheered on passing bikers on their way to the ride’s end in Falmouth.
“I think it's really important for people to be appreciated for what they're doing, and I figured this helps create a little more festivity,” Schenter said. “We're on the latter half (of the ride), so anything I can do to help them keep going and have fun.”
She said she also got to talk to people as they walked by and help bring more awareness to the event.
