EAST WAREHAM - Mark D. Covell, age 67, of East Wareham, formerly of Middleborough, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after a brief illness with cancer.
Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Madeline M. (Cantalupo) Taylor and the late Donald E. Covell. Mark grew up and attended public schools in Middleborough, graduating from Middleborough High School, Class of 1977. For over 40 years, he worked in the custodial department for the Middleborough Public Schools, keeping the educational facilities safe, clean, sanitary and functioning for all staff and students; he retired in 2022 as Head Custodian. Mark kept busy working various jobs, being a plat setter for Colonial Brass in Middleborough, doing general landscaping, and performing maintenance for Marriott Hotels. He was also a lifelong member of the Mitchell Memorial Club in Middleborough.
In retirement, Mark enjoyed the simple pleasures. He was a sports fan who played all sports, participated in many softball leagues and was an avid golfer. Mark enjoyed fishing on Cape Cod and Nantucket, hunting in Maine and loved visiting Old Orchard Beach in Maine with Karen. He was a member of the Cape Cod Beagle Club in East Falmouth for many years and always had a Beagle companion. Mark loved his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and Pickles too! He will be missed.
Mark is survived by the Love of his life, Karen Steininger of Taunton; he was the loving father of Daralyn Covell & her partner Michael Alfonso of Elkin, North Carolina; cherished Bumpa of Tristan and Michaelyn; dear brother of Bruce Covell & his wife Sandy of Wareham and the late Richard Covell & his surviving wife MaryEllen Covell of Plymouth, the late David Covell, the late Shawn Covell, and the late Lisa Covell; devoted uncle of Tammy, Adam, Josh, Shane, Ashley, Ricky, Mikey, Billy, Georgie, Shawny, Kelly, Jenna, Alycia, and Kristen. Mark is also survived by many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends and his former spouse, Lynda DiRuzza of North Carolina.
All are welcome to the memorial visiting hours at the Ashley~Drolette Funeral Home, 35 Oak Streeet, Middleborough, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 1:30-5:30 PM.
Close family and friends are invited to join the family at the Mitchell Memorial Club, 29 Elm Street, Middleborough, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 6:00-10:00 PM.
