Town acquires new emergency rescue vehicle

The town's Emergency Management Department has a new high-water rescue vehicle to respond to flooding, severe storms, coastal emergencies, evacuations and other incidents unfit for normal emergency vehicles.

The vehicle has an automated external defibrillator, a potentially life-saving machine. The department also received funding through an Eversource grant prgoram to purchase equipment for the vehicle's emergency response functions.

The vehicle is intended to support rescue operations when the usual access methods are unsuccessful.

"This is an investment in preparedness, resiliency, interoperability and the safety of Wareham's citizens and emergency responders," the department said in a press release.
